G.R.E.A.T

Officer Miller began the fourth grade GREAT program 2 weeks ago. GREAT stands for Gang Resistance Education And Training. Some of the things students will learn include:
Making GREAT choices
Communicating messages clearly
Controlling anger
Respecting others
Being a GREAT citizen

Inherited Traits / Learned Behaviors

inherited trait - genes that are passed down from parents to their offspring.
examples: hair color, height, eye color, skin color

adaptation - inherited trait enables them to survive in their environment. examples: webbed feet on a duck, blubber on a polar bear, turtle with a hard shell

learned behaviors - behaviors that are taught to an animal.
examples: teach a dog to sit or fetch, look both ways before crossing a street

instinct - behavoir that an animal is born with and does
not need to learn.
examples: dog's tail wags, salmon swim upstream
